PhD Studentship: High performance and robust systems (HIPARSYS)
School of Engineering Sciences
A PhD studentship is now available within the Computational Engineering & Design Research Group, School of Engineering Sciences (SES), which will fully cover University tuition fees (at EU/UK level**) and provide a tax-free bursary of 12,300 per year, rising annually in line with the UK Government (EPSRC) recommended rate, for a three-year duration. Further financial support for deserving international students is available.
The PhD student will work in the area of uncertainty quantification and robust design of gas turbinecomponents. The primary focus of the work will be on constructing parametric CAD models to represent geometric variability using measurement data and developing advanced numerical techniques to quantify the resulting variability in performance. The analysis tools developed will be applied to optimize performance robustness in the presence of uncertainty. The nature of the work is primarily computational and analytical. Good programming skills are essential. The student will be required to work with a group of post-doctoral research fellows in a coordinated fashion. SES is a top 5* rated research school with an international reputation. The successful candidate will work with a group of highly motivated, first class research students in the areas of stochastic mechanics and aerospace design optimization.
The School is a diverse community which is committed to creating an inclusive working and learning environment in which all individuals are equally treated and valued, and can achieve their potential. The School considers all studentship applications in relation to academic criteria and regardless of the individual's race, gender, or belief.
Entry requirements: The studentship is available to candidates with the equivalent of a first class or upper second class degree in a relevant discipline, e.g. Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics or a related quantitative discipline.

Master in International Studies, HEI, Geneva, Switzerland
The Department of International History and Politics (HPI) Graduate Institute of International Studies (HEI), Geneva
Invites application to its 2-year Master in International Studies (MIS) commencing September 2007
The Department of International History and Politics specializes in teaching and researching the historical, political, social, cultural, and ideational dimensions of contemporary global structures and relationships. Besides a reputed faculty with varied interests, the section welcomes each year a distinguished array of visiting professors from around the world. Most of the classes are in the form of small participative seminars with 15-20 students and marked by a collegial atmosphere of debate and discussion. HEI is a bilingual institute in English and French. MIS students are expected to have certified competence in one language and passive knowledge of the other.
MIS courses emphasize the role and relevance of historical knowledge for interpreting contemporary issues and developments. Pluridisciplinarity is a well-established part of the HEI's academic tradition, and MIS students in International History and Politics may opt to pursue courses in one or more of the following complementary disciplines: international law, political science and international economics. By the end of the two-year programme, we anticipate MIS students would have acquired the tools, competences and awareness allowing them to engage in academic research or in professional careers in international organizations, governments, media, multinational businesses, NGOs, etc.
MIS students may also have the chance to participate in exchange programmes with partner Universities worldwide.
Admission to the programme is open by rigorous selection to promising students having Bachelor degrees/majors from recognized institutions worldwide, in History, Politics (including political science), International Relations, and other related humanities and social science disciplines. Candidates with some experience of independent research are particularly encouraged to apply. International students are strongly encouraged to apply. Scholarships may be available to meritorious and needy students.
The deadline for application is 31 January 2007. For more information about the programme and details of application procedures please visit our web site http://www.hei.unige.ch/sections/hp/pages/MIS_index.htm, or contact the Students Department, HEI, P.O. As you might know, the Centre for Advanced Studies is running a Master course "Global Studies".
Currently we a looking for Social Sciences / Humanity students, that are interested in participating in the European Master course in Global Studies next year.
The Master course ‘Global Studies – A European Perspective’ treats globalisation as a complex process involving various interconnected factors, including power, welfare, religion, law, tradition and profit.
The course is a two-year master. The next academic year starts in October, 2007. It is modularised and integrated: It has to be studied for one year at one of the European partner institutions, and for the second year at a different European university.
At the moment the chances to get an ERASMUS MUNDUS scholarship are really high for students coming from the following countries:
- Bosnia-Herzegovina - Serbia - Montenegro - Kosovo - Albania
Therefor we would be very pleased if you could forward the information sheet to eligible and interested students from the above mentioned countries (or better to say, ask colleagues that work in universities in the above mentioned countries to forward this information to their students) and encourage them to apply.
It will be suffiencient if they send the pre-applicantion until January 15th, 2007 via e-mail or fax 00 49 341 96 05 261. The paper application and missing documents should arrive in our office until Mid-February.
If you have any further question, do not hesitate to contact me.

MPhil eshte Master of Philosophy, qe do te thote se ka te njejtin program me vitin e pare te doktoratures dhe pasi jep provimin e mbrojtjes, atehere merr titullin MPhil.
